For the printmaking unit I decided to do a picture of "La Mezquita de Cordoba," a mosque in Spain. I think the technicality of the print is good. I had a lot of lines and it was difficult to cut out and took me a long time but I think I did a good job of keeping the carving neat. I think I did a good job with the ink coverage and matching up the prints. I have some small lines of black in the yellow and red to create a texture for them. I had only four colors, and the real mezquita doesn't have a lot of colors either, so I kept the colors simple. I kept the balance by keeping the arches centered and by keeping the colors balanced. If I were to recreate my piece, I would add something to the brown part to enhance it a little more and maybe try to incorporate more colors such as a darker yellow.

Final Colored PencilI think my drawing has good composition. There is nothing directly in the center of the drawing so your eye is not distracted. Using value to create dimension is important because it makes the drawing look more realistic. I used value in the ocean and the sand to make the ocean appear vast and to give the sand texture. Using exaggerated color in the signs help make it the focal point of the piece. I think it has good craftsmanship. I took my time and layered the colors, and I spent a lot of time on the small details. I was able to achieve depth because I have all three grounds. The ocean and sky is my background, the sand and tree the middle ground and the signs as my foreground. It was difficult working with colored pencil because you cannot afford to make mistakes. You can't erase colored pencil. An advantage of using colored pencil is how real you can make a piece look, and how many different colors you can make.
Pastel CandyI chose to do the candy drawing in pastel. I like pastels because they are easy to blend, but it is hard to get a good concentration of color.
Colored Pencil, Pastel, WatercolorI liked working with these three mediums. I had the most difficuty with watercolor. I found it hard to control, and it is something I would like to improve on and work with in the future. I liked working with the prisma colors because of how detailed you can get, and how easy they are to control. I like my prisma drawing of the avocado the best. Even though I liked the prisma colors, my favorite medium to use was the pastels. They are a little hard to control, but I like how easy it is to blend and make different colors.

I arranged my composition so the eye would not focus on one part of the picture. I used darker value everywhere so people don't focus on one dark part of the drawing. Texture and pattern are important because it makes the picture seem realer. For example, making the dashes in the water shorter and denser made it seem like the water was going back, it gave it depth. Value is important because it creates depth. It also ensures different things or buildings blend in with another thing. I think my craftsmanship is good. I tried to keep my lines clean and neat. The practices helped with my value and wrapping the pattern. It is important to understand the concepts because it helps keep the piece 3D. It helps make the drawing look realistic. In the future, I will use the concepts such as texture and value in texture to make my future drawings appear more realistic. If I could recreate my piece, I would add more values in the buildings and pick tighter textures.

I arranged my composition based on the picture. It created good spacing, and nothing was directly in the center of the picture. I used a wide range of values. I know this because I used the values to distinguish the values so the objects do not blend together. Practicing the value shapes was very helpful. The reflection line plays a huge factor , and shading with the shape makes it look more realistic. I put more pressure on the pencil when creating darker values. I also put down a "base layer" using light pressure with the pencil. I then layered the graphite to create darker values and to create smooth transitions. Texture makes the object more realistic, so it is very important to try to capture the texture of the object. For example, the holes in the ball gave it a certain texture, and I had to create that texture as well as the texture in the glass. If I could recreate the piece, I would pay more attention to the certain textures and values in the basket and phone. I struggled with sketching out the size and shape proportions, which made a difference in the end product. I would spend more time making sure the sketching is correct.
